Fall 2007 marks the expansion of the Sonoma Green Business Program to include a wider range of businesses and fully integrate the Bay Area Green Business Program standards. Coordinated by the Sonoma County Economic Development Board in cooperation with the Business Environmental Alliance, the Sonoma Green Business Program verifies that businesses meet higher standards of environmental performance. Our partnership of government agencies and utilities helps local businesses comply with all environmental regulations and take actions to conserve resources, prevent pollution, and minimize waste. For enrollment and detailed program information, please visit www.SonomaGreenBusiness.org. Background The Sonoma Green Business Program, the first multi-media environmental compliance program in the Bay Area, served as a model for the development of the Bay Area Green Business Program. The Sonoma Green Business Program began as a voluntary compliance program for the automotive industry and expanded to included graphic arts industries and wineries. In 1999, Sonoma Green Business received a prestigious award from the Joint Center for Sustainable Communities. Under the former Sonoma Green Business Program, 165 businesses were certified. Please note that the former Sonoma Green Business Program is no longer accepting applicants, and all organizations interested in achieving Green Business certification must meet the expanded program's standards.
